UMSL’s Dr. Bennett Receives Award of Excellence

Dr. Edward Bennett, Professor and Assistant Dean for Student Services and Alumni Relations at the University of Missouri at St. Louis College of Optometry (UMSL), was among the 2016 recipients of an Award of Excellence presented earlier this year by Contact Lens Spectrum (PentaVision) during the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) in Las Vegas. In 2016, the GSLS Award of Excellence honorees were the authors whose publications have educated and inspired generations of contact lens practitioners across the globe.

In addition to his faculty and administration roles at UMSL, Dr. Bennett is Executive Director of the Gas Permeable Lens Institute, the education division of the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association. He also serves on the Council of the Contact Lens and Cornea Section Council of the American Optometric Association, is a Diplomate and past Chair for the Cornea, Contact Lens and Refractive Technologies Section of the American Academy of Optometry, and is a Fellow in the Scleral Lens Education Society. Dr. Bennett, the Clinical Features Editor for Contact Lens Spectrum, has authored more than 200 publications including 112 texts. His primary research interests are in the area of gas permeable contact lenses, specifically initial comfort, multifocal designs and orthokeratology.
