Dr. Buzzelli Named Kentucky College of Optometry’s Founding Dean

The University of Pikeville announced that it has chosen Dr. Andrew Buzzelli to be the Founding Dean of the Kentucky College of Optometry. Dr. Buzzelli, a member of the ASCO Board of Directors, is currently a Professor and Dean of the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO). According to a press release from the University of Pikeville, he will assume his new position in July. University of Pikeville President James Hurley stated, “After conducting a highly competitive national search we concluded that Dr. Andrew Buzzelli is the perfect fit and has all the values that we expect in our founding Dean. Dr. Buzzelli has the experience, knowledge and passion to build the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry into a national leader in optometric education.”

Plans to build a new educational facility to house the Kentucky College of Optometry are under way. The university expects to welcome the first class in the fall of 2016.
