The American Board of Optometry (ABO) offers faculty and residency directors the opportunity to earn board certification at significant savings. We recognize the impact educators have on shaping the future of optometry and encourage participation in a lifelong learning program through maintenance of certification. As future optometrists, students are also encouraged to engage in the lifelong learning process through ABO’s Student Candidate Program. The Student Candidate program was launched in 2025 after collaboration with students and faculty on ways to involve students in the board certification process from an earlier point in their careers.
