OPHTHALMIC OPTICS EDUCATORS

Actions: Marilyn Smith and Dr. Natalie Hutchings, University of Waterloo, were appointed Chairs of the SIG; the SIG is recommending to the ASCO Board that ASCO become a member organization of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) Z80 (The Low Vision Educators SIG also supports this recommendation.); members decided to incorporate an Educating the Educator session into each workshop; the SIG will meet next on July 21-23, 2016, in Ontario, Canada.
Topics Discussed/Speakers: Dr. James Sheedy, who was instrumental in forming the Ophthalmic Optics Educators SIG in 1996, was honored for his contributions in ophthalmic optics and delivered the Joe Bruneni Lecture (“Blue Light-Good or Bad?”) in memory of Dr. Daryl Meister (Dr. Sheedy received this award in 2005 as well.); Education and Scholarship in Ophthalmic Optics (Dr. Sheedy); Research Ideas in Ophthalmic Optics (Vision Research Institute); Measuring Devices from Manufacturers (Essilor, Hoya, Carl Zeiss); ANSI Membership for Ophthalmic Optics (Dr. Karl Citek)
