Southern College of Optometry (SCO) is the recipient of a Top Workplaces Award presented by The Commercial Appeal, the predominant daily newspaper in Memphis, Tenn., and surrounding areas. SCO was named to the final list of 50 Top Workplaces in Memphis. For mid-sized organizations, the college had the fourth-highest satisfaction rate in the city. SCO received an additional award in recognition of the fact that its employees were the most satisfied of all employees surveyed in Memphis with their benefits package. A total of 28,000 people from several hundred companies in Memphis were surveyed as the basis for the awards.

“This is a great testament to the quality of our benefits program and the pride that our employees take in SCO and our mission,” said SCO President Dr. Richard Phillips. “Although we are very pleased with the result of the survey and this honor presented by the Commercial Appeal, we are committed to continuing to find ways to make the work and study environment at the college as positive an experience as possible. Every other year, SCO takes the opportunity to have an independent human resources firm conduct an employee satisfaction survey. Any area that demonstrates a potential need for improvement is studied by the management team, and we have been able to initiate many new programs and improve campus-wide communication through this process. We felt that another independent survey, conducted by the Commercial appeal, would demonstrate to the Memphis community the tremendous feeling of family that we all share at SCO. Thanks to everyone for their support that resulted in this public recognition of the college.”

The Commercial Appeal published the complete list of Top Workplaces on December 8. For more information about the Top Workplaces awards, visit www.topworkplaces.com and www.workplacedynamics.com.
