For the first time ever, ASCO held its first open-to-the public Annual Business Meeting in Denver on June 20. The meeting allowed for open discussion on several important topics and initiatives:
- Presentation by Mr. Bob Bailey, CEO & Founder of Truth Collective, on work being done to expand the quantity and quality of the applicant pool to optometry institutions.
- Karla Zadnik, Dean of The Ohio State University, College of Optometry, and ASCO Past-President, on behalf of ASCO’s GRE Task Force, discussed the pros and cons of allowing prospective applicants to apply to optometry school after taking the Graduate Record Exam and not the Optometry Admission Test.
- Two resolutions were presented to Drs. Arol Augsburger and Clifford Scott as they retired as President of Illinois College of Optometry and New England College of Optometry respectively.
The new format of the meeting was well received by the participants and allowed for a Q&A session after each presentation. Next year’s Annual Meeting will be held on June 19 in St. Louis.
