UIW Optometry Faculty Member Installed as TOA President

The University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO) is proud to announce that Dr. Jenny Terrell, has been installed as President of the Texas Optometric Association (TOA). She is the fifth woman to serve in this capacity and will work as the leader of Texas Optometry for the next year. In addition, UIWRSO faculty member, Dr. Sandra Fortenberry was installed as President-Elect.

“Congratulations to both of these individuals on their hard work and dedication to the profession. They demonstrate understanding the concept that part of being a health care professional is to leave your profession in a better place at the end of your career than it was when you began. We look forward to working with them on behalf of optometry in Texas,” said Dr. Timothy Wingert, Dean, Rosenberg School of Optometry.

Jenny Terrell, OD, FAAO is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIWRSO). She serves in the capacity of co-director of the Community Eye Clinic in Fort Worth, Texas, which is a partnership between UIWRSO and the University of Houston, College of Optometry (UHCO). Dr. Terrell grew up in central Texas and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from UHCO, where she also completed a residency in Community-Based Family Practice. Dr. Terrell serves as the President of the Texas Optometric Association. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the Tarrant County Optometric Society. Outside work and professional advocacy, Dr. Terrell enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and two rescue dogs.
