ASCO Signs Letter in Support of High-Quality Healthcare Workforce

APHA-logoASCO joined the nearly 200 organizations aligned with Friends of HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) in signing a funding request letter sent in March to leaders of the Appropriations Committees and Subcommittees in the U.S. House and Senate. Friends of HRSA, led by the American Public Health Association, is dedicated to improving health through supporting a workforce well-prepared to deliver high-quality health services. The programs administered by HRSA serve the health needs of people in every state and U.S. territory who are medically underserved, low-income and geographically isolated.

The letter is in response to the 19% cut (25% when adjusted for inflation) in HRSA’s discretionary budget authority that has taken place since 2010. It urges restoration of funding for discretionary HRSA programs to the 2010 level of $7.48 billion in the FY 2015 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.
